About Insight Partners

Insight Partners is a New York-based growth-equity firm that has, over the last decade, become one of the largest and most-active software investors in the world, with a portfolio that includes Shopify, Twitter (early), Wix, Monday.com, Veeam, JetBrains, and a long list of vertical SaaS and infrastructure software companies. Insight’s operating model is distinctive: the firm runs an in-house operating-services platform called Insight Onsite that includes recruiting, sales operations, marketing, finance, and customer success specialists, and portfolio companies are expected to engage with that platform actively. For healthcare and AI founders, Insight has been a meaningful investor in healthcare IT and healthcare-adjacent software, with portfolio names including Phreesia, Definitive Healthcare, Olive (which had a public unwind), Cohere Health, and a deep bench of vertical SaaS companies that touch healthcare buyers. The firm is increasingly active in AI applications, with a clear preference for AI-native vertical SaaS where the buyer is an enterprise procurement organization. Stage focus is decisively growth: Insight does have an early-stage practice (Insight Onramp and related programs) that writes Series A and B checks in the five-to-twenty-million range, but the bulk of the firm’s capital deploys into Series C, D, and growth rounds, with check sizes scaling from twenty-five million to several hundred million per deal, and the firm regularly leads recapitalizations and minority growth rounds in established software companies with eight-to-nine-figure revenue. Geography is global with offices in New York, London, Tel Aviv, and selective coverage of other regions; Insight is unusually active in Israel and in European software. Founders who should approach Insight are growth-stage healthcare-software, vertical-SaaS, and AI-applications founders with real ARR (typically twenty million and up for the core growth fund, although the early-stage program can engage earlier), proven sales motion, and a willingness to engage with the Onsite operating model. Insight is also a credible partner for founders looking for a single-firm-led growth round who do not want to assemble a syndicate. Founders who should look elsewhere are early-stage seed-and-Series-A founders who want a hands-off lead, founders building therapeutics or devices (not Insight’s category), and founders who object on principle to private-equity-style governance, because Insight’s governance posture is closer to growth equity than to venture. The entry path that works best is through bankers running growth processes, through Insight’s deal-sourcing team (which is large and active, and cold inbound to Insight does work better than at most growth firms), or through portfolio CEO referrals. When you pitch, lead with the financial story: ARR, growth rate, gross margin, net retention, sales efficiency, and the specific use of capital. Insight’s diligence is metrics-driven and fast for a firm of its size, and partners will want to see the unit economics in detail. Caveats: Insight’s brand was hit by some high-profile portfolio struggles in the post-ZIRP cycle, including healthcare-IT names that did not survive the rate environment, and the firm has reset its pace and check sizes accordingly; founders should ask about pace and reserves explicitly; governance includes board seats and active operating involvement; and the Onsite platform is mandatory in spirit if not in contract, so founders who are allergic to playbook-driven operating involvement should pick a different lead.
