About MedTunnel
MedTunnel is a free, HIPAA-compliant communication platform designed for healthcare providers and patients to securely exchange private health information (PHI) using computers and mobile devices. It aims to replace insecure methods like email, text messaging, and faxing for transmitting sensitive medical data. The service provides a secure conduit for PHI, with a robust security protocol that encrypts all data in transit and at rest, ensuring that even MedTunnel personnel cannot access PHI.
For physicians, MedTunnel offers a streamlined way to communicate instantly and securely with office staff, other providers, and patients. It facilitates answering medical, billing, and scheduling questions, exchanging advice with partners, and securely sending, receiving, and viewing medical documents such as patient records and X-rays from any device, anywhere, anytime. MedTunnel also offers the capability for medical practices to have their own custom mobile apps, leveraging MedTunnel’s HIPAA-compliant infrastructure. Documents and messages are stored on MedTunnel’s servers for 14 days before being automatically erased, though cached data on mobile devices remains until deleted by the user.

Encouraging patients to create a MedTunnel ID can streamline sending labs and reports, and provide a universal identifier for patient information across different providers.
MedTunnel's desktop app includes a 'Print-To-Send' functionality that allows documents to be sent from any application that can print, effectively integrating with existing EMR/EHR solutions by converting documents to PDF and facilitating secure transfer. The receiving side's AutoDownloader can save incoming documents to a chosen folder for loading into an EMR/EHR.
