The corporate venture capital arm of Bank Rakyat Indonesia, backing scalable digital platforms.
About BRI Ventures
BRI Ventures is the corporate venture arm of Bank Rakyat Indonesia, one of Southeast Asia’s largest banks by customer count, and deploys $1M-$5M cheques across Seed, Series A, and Series B into scalable digital platforms, including digital health. The strategic logic is straightforward: BRI’s customer base spans tens of millions of microfinance and rural retail customers, and the venture arm seeks startups whose distribution can ride that rail. For digital health, this means platforms that can plug into BRI’s agent network, embedded finance flows, or insurance partnerships are uniquely well-positioned. Founders building telemedicine, pharmacy distribution, or insurance-adjacent health platforms with rural Indonesian reach should approach. Pure clinical AI, biotech, or enterprise hospital software founders without a consumer or microfinance angle are a poor fit. The right introduction path is through BRI’s strategy team, an existing portfolio CEO, or one of the regional accelerators that co-invest alongside BRI such as Indogen or Convergence. Lead the pitch with concrete partnership economics, distribution terms with BRI proper, and clear evidence of unit economics in lower-tier Indonesian cities, not just Jakarta. Caveats: as a corporate VC, BRI Ventures will weigh strategic fit alongside financial return, and term sheets may include rights of first refusal, data-sharing arrangements, or distribution exclusivity that founders should negotiate carefully. Decision cadence is institutional given the bank parent, so expect multiple committees and longer cycles than a pure financial VC. AI focus is not a stated priority, so AI-native founders should not assume technical sophistication on the partner side and should bring an independent technical due diligence path. Confirm reserves and follow-on policy early given that bank-affiliated CVCs can be inconsistent across cycles.
