About IM Capital

IM Capital is a Beirut-based fund-of-funds and matching-capital platform, managing USAID-affiliated programs that provide equity guarantees and co-investments designed to de-risk and catalyze early-stage venture funding in the Levant. Stage focus is seed and Series A with checks in the $250k to $1M range, and AI is a stated focus. The structural model is unusual: IM Capital does not operate as a traditional VC making lead investments but rather as a co-investor and guarantor that sits alongside private capital, leveraging US development finance to crowd in commercial investors who might otherwise pass on Lebanese or Levantine deals. The right founder for IM Capital is a Lebanese, Jordanian, or wider Levantine operator building a digital health, healthcare software, or AI-enabled care business that has already attracted at least preliminary commercial investor interest, where IM’s matching capital can close the round. The wrong founder is a pre-traction company without a parallel commercial investor anchor, a deep medtech or therapeutics team, or a non-Levantine founder using Beirut only as an engineering hub. Intro paths run through Beirut’s surviving venture ecosystem including Berytech, Endeavor Lebanon, Speed@BDD, and the AUB Innovation Park, through MENA-focused funds active in the Levant such as B&Y Venture Partners, Cedar Mundi, and Wamda Capital, and through USAID’s Mission Lebanon contacts and other DFI networks. Direct outreach is read but warm intros and a clearly defined commercial co-investor are essentially prerequisites. In the pitch, lead with the existing investor commitment and the role IM’s matching capital plays in closing the round, the unit economics in USD given the structural collapse of LBP as a usable currency, and a candid view of Lebanon’s continued macro and political instability. Show a credible plan to operate at least partially out of a more stable jurisdiction such as the UAE, Cyprus, or the US, since Beirut-only operations are increasingly difficult to scale. Be specific about Ministry of Public Health Lebanon posture and any cross-border telemedicine or pharmacy regulatory exposure. Caveats are real and significant. The Lebanese economic context has reshaped what is possible for local startups, USAID program priorities shift with administration changes which affects IM Capital’s deployment cadence, and follow-on commercial capital for Levantine companies has compressed materially. The fund is a useful piece of a syndicate for the right Levantine founder but is rarely a substitute for genuine commercial investor conviction.
