Managing the largest Africa-focused VC fund, Partech backs category leaders digitizing the informal economy, including health supply chains and tech-enabled services.
About Partech Africa
Partech Africa, the African arm of the global Partech Partners franchise, manages the largest Africa-focused VC fund in the market following the 2024 final close of Partech Africa II at over $300M. The fund invests from seed through Series C, with check sizes ranging $1M to $15M depending on stage and round dynamics. Healthcare is a stated thesis area alongside fintech, mobility, commerce, and energy, with the digitization of informal economy supply chains as the unifying lens.
The firm’s natural fit is with African category leaders that can scale across multiple countries, ideally using one of Africa’s anchor markets (Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa, Egypt) as the launch base. For healthcare founders, the most relevant pattern is tech-enabled care delivery, health insurance and benefits, pharmacy and diagnostics e-commerce, and health supply chain digitization. Reliance Health, the Nigerian health insurance platform, is one of the firm’s most visible healthcare bets and illustrates the thesis. Founders building deep biotech or therapeutics, or pure single-country plays without regional ambition, are not the natural pattern.
Geographically, Partech’s advantage is its dual presence in African startup hubs (Dakar, Lagos, Nairobi) and in global venture capital markets (Paris, San Francisco). The firm’s brand and network help founders syndicate to international growth-stage capital and recruit talent from the African diaspora. For founders without an African operational footprint, the strategic logic is weaker.
The right entry path is a warm intro from a portfolio founder, a senior operator at one of the major African corporates, or a fellow African or global VC who has co-invested. The firm reads partner-led decks promptly when there is a strong network signal. The pitch should lead with the African market wedge, the multi-country expansion plan, unit economics in local currencies, and a credible global follow-on plan. Healthcare-specific pitches should address African payer dynamics (out-of-pocket, public sector, private insurance, donor-funded) and regulatory considerations across target markets.
Caveats. African macroeconomic and FX dynamics introduce real risk into venture economics; cross-border holding structures and currency hedging matter. The firm’s healthcare-specific portfolio is more concentrated in Reliance Health and adjacent care delivery plays than in deep clinical or biotech assets; for those founders, dedicated specialty funds are a better fit. The check range is broad; clarify expected ownership and lead status early. For African category-leader healthcare founders, Partech Africa is among the strongest regional partners on the continent; for early single-market plays, larger pan-African or local accelerators may be a better entry point.
