Allergios®
Overview
Allergios® is developing an innovative in-vitro allergy diagnostic system designed to provide clear and unambiguous allergy diagnoses, initially focusing on food allergies. The current methods for diagnosing allergies, particularly food allergies, are often cumbersome, risky for patients (e.g., oral food challenges), and complex for medical professionals, leading to delayed or insufficient diagnoses.
The Allergios® solution is based on research from the University of Bremen and the Medical University of Vienna. It utilizes a method and system that directly visualizes the allergic response by analyzing the ability of immunological factors in patient blood to induce basophil degranulation in the presence of specific allergens. This approach aims to replace high-risk procedures like the food challenge test.
The system comprises a disposable microfluidic chip, an optical reader called GranulEye®, and AI-based analysis software. This integrated platform allows for safe and easy allergy testing using just a few drops of blood serum. By visually analyzing allergen-specific degranulation of basophil cells, Allergios® intends to enable clinicians to provide timely and effective treatment options based on a clear diagnosis.
Allergios® plans to initially target food allergies and then gradually expand its diagnostic capabilities to other IgE-mediated allergies. The company is currently focused on transforming its technology prototype into a fully validated diagnostic platform, supported by grant funding and seed financing, with a Series A round targeted for mid-2026.

What Physicians Need to Know
When utilizing Allergiosu00ae, remember that while the AI provides objective interpretation, always integrate these results with the patient's comprehensive clinical history, physical examination, and other relevant diagnostic findings. The system's focus on basophil degranulation offers a direct visualization of allergic response, which can be particularly valuable for food allergies. Be mindful that even with advanced AI, a thorough understanding of the patient's symptoms and potential exposures remains paramount for accurate diagnosis and personalized treatment plans. The enhanced documentation and reduced subjectivity can improve efficiency, but clinical judgment is irreplaceable.
Allergiosu00ae is designed for integration into existing EHR ecosystems, facilitating automatic syncing of structured results and reducing manual data entry. This workflow integration is crucial for streamlining allergy testing processes in high-volume practices. Future integrations should focus on seamless bidirectional communication with various LIS/LIMS platforms, supporting diverse data formats (e.g., HL7, FHIR) to ensure comprehensive data flow from sample processing to reporting and billing. This will enhance overall laboratory efficiency and connectivity within the broader healthcare IT infrastructure.
