ECHELON Synergy
Overview
The FUJIFILM ECHELON Synergy is a state-of-the-art 1.5 Tesla (T) Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) system designed and manufactured by FUJIFILM Healthcare. It incorporates proprietary Artificial Intelligence (AI) through Deep Learning Reconstruction (DLR) technology, known as Synergy DLR, to significantly enhance image clarity and expedite scanning times. [2, 7, 18, 22] The system received FDA 510(k) clearance in August 2023. [2, 7, 8, 18, 21]
ECHELON Synergy is built with patient comfort in mind, featuring a wide 70 cm bore and a 62 cm wide table that accommodates patients up to 550 lbs. [2, 7, 13, 16, 17, 18, 22] It also includes SoftSound™ gradient technology to reduce acoustic noise, improving the patient experience. [2, 7, 13, 16, 18, 22] The system’s design focuses on workflow efficiency with features like AutoExam One Touch operation, which automates patient positioning and scan initiation for brain and knee exams, and dual gantry monitors. [7, 13, 16, 18, 22]
Recent software updates, such as Version 10 (v10) released in October 2024, introduce further AI-powered enhancements like Synergy DLR Clear for artifact reduction and Synergy Vision with StillShot AI to mitigate motion artifacts, reducing the need for rescans. [3, 4, 5, 15] The system also features an anti-bacterial Hydro AG coating on high-contact surfaces to help reduce healthcare-associated infections (HAIs). [2, 7, 8, 18, 22]

What Physicians Need to Know
For radiologists, ECHELON Synergy's AI-powered Deep Learning Reconstruction (DLR) and motion correction (StillShot) can lead to sharper images and fewer motion artifacts, potentially improving diagnostic confidence and reducing the need for repeat scans. The automated workflow features (AutoExam One Touch, AutoPose) can significantly reduce technologist workload and scan times, enhancing patient throughput and overall department efficiency. Physicians should leverage the faster acquisition times to potentially expand MRI access and reduce patient wait times, while also appreciating the improved patient comfort features that can lead to better image quality due to reduced patient anxiety and movement.
ECHELON Synergy, as an MRI system, natively supports DICOM 3.0 for image transfer. Its integration into a broader healthcare IT ecosystem is facilitated by Fujifilm's enterprise imaging solutions like Synapse PACS, which can embed AI and advanced visualization directly into the reading workflow. This allows for seamless image processing, management, and review within existing PACS environments, optimizing the flow of AI-enhanced MRI data to radiologists.
