FFRangio
Overview
The CathWorks FFRangio® System is an innovative angiography-derived physiology (ADP) platform that leverages artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced computational science to provide a comprehensive physiological assessment of coronary artery disease (CAD). It transforms routine angiograms into a detailed 3D model of the coronary tree, allowing physicians to obtain Fractional Flow Reserve (FFR) values at every point along the vessels.
This non-invasive system eliminates the need for traditional invasive pressure wires and drug stimulation (such as adenosine), thereby minimizing procedural risk, radiation exposure, and associated costs. FFRangio streamlines the procedural workflow in the cath lab with an intuitive user interface and seamless integration with existing equipment like the boom and PACS. It aids in quick angiogram analysis and offers advanced tools such as a simulated pullback curve to differentiate functional patterns of CAD, a Lesion Impact feature to assess residual ischemia, and an integrated sizing tool for non-invasive lesion measurements.
The FFRangio System is designed to empower interventional cardiologists with objective, real-time data to optimize Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) therapy decisions and improve patient outcomes.

What Physicians Need to Know
Utilize FFRangio's comprehensive, real-time physiological assessment of the entire coronary tree to optimize PCI planning and decision-making, particularly in cases of multi-vessel disease or tandem lesions. Leverage the wire-free and drug-free nature of the system to assess patients who might be at higher risk for complications with traditional invasive FFR, such as those with tenuous blood pressure or coagulopathies. Integrate FFRangio into the cath lab workflow to streamline procedures, reduce radiation exposure, and potentially increase the adoption of physiological guidance. Ensure optimal 2D angiogram acquisition (three angiograms, 30u00b0 apart, good opacification, end-diastolic frame) as it is crucial for accurate 3D model reconstruction and FFRangio calculation.
The CathWorks FFRangio System is designed for seamless integration with existing cath lab infrastructure, including the cath lab boom and Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS). It processes routine 2D angiograms from standard imaging systems. While FFRangio focuses on angiogram-derived FFR, it can complement other AI-powered diagnostic tools like CT-based FFR analysis, though it does not perform CT/MRI analysis itself.

What the Web Says
FFRangio is a non-invasive, angiography-based system that utilizes artificial intelligence and advanced computational science to provide fractional flow reserve (FFR) values for the entire coronary tree from routine angiograms. This eliminates the need for invasive pressure wires and drug stimulation, which are typically required for traditional wire-based FFR. Physicians highlight its role in optimizing clinical decision-making, streamlining workflow, and potentially expanding the use of physiological assessment in the cath lab.
Overall: PositiveStrengths
- Wire-free and drug-free, eliminating risks and inconveniences associated with traditional FFR methods.
- High diagnostic accuracy compared to wire-based FFR.
- Provides comprehensive multi-vessel coronary physiology and PCI planning tools, including real-time FFRangio values and simulated pullback curves.
- Intuitive user interface and AI aid in quick angiogram analysis and simplify the operator experience.
- Demonstrated comparable one-year major adverse cardiac event (MACE) rates to invasive FFR in clinical trials and real-world studies.
- Can be integrated seamlessly into the cath lab workflow, potentially saving time.
Limitations
- Diagnostic performance has not been established for lesions immediately after PCI.
- Some useful features may be limited to higher plans, making the subscription potentially expensive (general G2/Capterra feedback, not specific to FFRangio).
- The platform can sometimes feel a little heavy for new users when handling many files and revisions (general G2/Capterra feedback, not specific to FFRangio).
