Quantib ND
Overview
Quantib ND, now integrated into DeepHealth Brain, is an AI-powered medical imaging processing application designed for the analysis of brain MRI scans. It is intended to provide quantitative information to trained medical professionals for the evaluation and assessment of neurodegenerative changes.
This tool is primarily for radiologists and neurologists in care settings where MRI brain scans are utilized for diagnosing and monitoring neurodegenerative diseases such as dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, and multiple sclerosis (MS).
Quantib ND integrates into clinical workflows by automatically labeling, visualizing, and volumetrically quantifying segmentable brain structures from MR images. It measures brain atrophy and detects white matter hyperintensities (WMH). The software provides segmentations, visualizations, and volumetric measurements, which can be compared to reference centile data from a healthy population. It offers both single time-point analysis and longitudinal analysis for tracking changes over time. The output includes a comprehensive report with quantitative results that can be sent to PACS.
Notable capabilities include automatic atrophy analysis, longitudinal atrophy and WMH analyses, and a color-coded overlay on T2 FLAIR images to distinguish between new and existing WMH lesions. Users can review and edit WMH segmentations. The tool aims to support and objectify the diagnostic process by providing quantitative data and reducing interobserver variability.

What Physicians Need to Know
Quantib ND serves as a valuable decision-support tool, providing objective, quantitative data that complements visual assessment of MRI scans. It is particularly useful for monitoring subtle changes in brain atrophy and white matter hyperintensities over time, which can be challenging to detect with the naked eye. Physicians should integrate these AI-generated insights with their clinical judgment and patient history to enhance diagnostic accuracy and facilitate multidisciplinary discussions. The comprehensive reports can also aid in communicating disease progression and treatment effectiveness to patients.
Quantib ND integrates via AI marketplaces or distribution platforms and can be deployed locally on dedicated hardware. Reports and segmentations are directly and automatically exported to a configured DICOM node, such as a PACS system, and are viewable with standard DICOM viewers. Quantib ND 2.0 operates as an extension for Quantib's proprietary platform, Quantib AI Node. As Quantib is now part of DeepHealth (a subsidiary of RadNet), further integration opportunities within the broader DeepHealth/RadNet ecosystem may be available.

What the Web Says
Quantib ND is an AI-powered software designed to assist radiologists in interpreting brain MRI scans, specifically for measuring brain atrophy and detecting white matter hyperintensities (WMH), which are indicators for conditions like aging, dementia, and multiple sclerosis. The software provides quantitative information, segmentations, and visualizations of brain structures and WMHs, comparing results to a normative database to aid in objective reporting and disease progression tracking. Quantib was acquired by RadNet in 2022 and became part of DeepHealth in 2023, with its solutions, including Quantib ND, integrated into DeepHealth's offerings.
Overall: PositiveStrengths
- Enables constructive multidisciplinary meetings and efficient decision-making.
- Delivers quantified information for dementia and objective tracking of disease progression for MS patients.
- Provides valuable objective information from MRI scans, comparing patient results to a non-biased reference population.
- Facilitates faster detection of tissue changes than manual analysis.
- Offers automatic atrophy analysis and longitudinal analyses for atrophy and WMH.
- Allows easy review and editing of WMH segmentation in an internet browser.
Limitations
- Implementation can face challenges due to time scarcity in healthcare and IT prioritization.
- Requires standardization of data and scan quality for improved algorithm reliability.
- A Reddit user found that AI segmentation systems like Quantib did not significantly speed up workflow in their experience with lung imaging, and sometimes made it longer.
- One study on Quantib Prostate (a related product) showed that while it was a sensitive tool, diagnostic accuracy did not significantly increase with an AI-assisted radiologist compared to an expert, and it could produce false positives.
- Some general concerns about AI systems in radiology include the need for human review and potential for false positives.
